Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, Ranchi, India was founded by the Philanthropist, Industrialist Mr. B.M. Birla
in 1955 as a pioneering institution of technical education and research in the 'Industrial Heart' of the country. It attained
the status of a technical University as a result of its achievements both in terms of research and excellent standards of
academic programmes.
The alumni of the Birla Institute of Technology are contributing in various capacities in industrial, business and government
sectors globally and are recognised for their contributions. The academic programmes of the University aim at developing a
wider concept of technical education that treats education, research, product development and industrial enterprise as the
logical sequence for professional accomplishments.
The University attracts students from all over India and also from several other countries. It is a full member of the Association
of Indian Universities and Association of Commonwealth Universities and its degrees are recognised the world over. In more
than 40 years of its existence the Birla Institute of Technology has produced over 12,000 graduates in engineering & technology
and over 1,500 post graduates with specialisation in engineering, pharmacy, applied sciences, computer applications and management
disciplines. The active research programmes of the University have produced a number of Doctorates in various disciplines
of technology, applied sciences and management.
